Thursday, November 04, 2004 Bridging the West and Islam urgent, says Anwar
"...acknowledged the political landscape had changed since his release, with a new reform-minded prime minister pledging to tackle corruption."
Asked if he still burned with ambition to become prime minister, Anwar said: “Not a burning ambition, but I don’t preclude anything.”
Since his release, Anwar has thanked Abdullah for his freedom, endorsed his anticorruption plan and sought a meeting with him—hardly the hallmarks of an opposition firebrand. Anwar said he now wanted to spend most of his time as “a bridge” between leaders in the West and in the Islamic world. He said he had been approached with some informal proposals, including one from contacts within the US Democratic Party and others from within the Middle East, but he declined to elaborate. Anwar, who drew moral support while in jail from former US president Bill Clinton, said he would prefer Democratic challenger John Kerry to win the presidency this time. (Source:

Zentrader Note: Anwar not only thanked Mr. PM for his freedom but also mentioned the key word that he is more willing to spend his time as a bridge. Whether BN will secure the 2/3 majority or not my real answer is that I don't know. I think a better question to ask is that if they don't get 2/3 majority, what kind of bridge Anwar and Wife will play and how it will affect Mr. PM's Apple & Grape Theory. Happy reading.
