As early as 2,500 years ago, about the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC), China had determined the point of Winter Solstice by observing movements of the sun with a sundial. It is the earliest of the 24 seasonal division points. The time will be each December 22 or 23 according to the Gregorian calendar. The Northern hemisphere on this day experiences the shortest daytime and longest nighttime. After the Winter Solstice, days will become longer and longer. As ancient Chinese thought, the yang, or muscular, positive things will become stronger and stronger after this day, so it should be celebrated. (read more...)

Passing Laws in Taegukgi Way

South Korea had one of the fastest economic development in the world since the 1960s and is now the 3rd largest economy in Asia and the 11th largest economy in the world. Many developing nations refer to this progress as the "Miracle on the Han River" (Source: Wikipedia)

ZenTrader Note: What impressed me the most is not their Strong Advocate in Feng Shui (everything from their dinner table setting to their national flag), and also not their Status as one of the most advanced economy in Asia but their Taegukgi Way of passing a legislation laws as shown in above pictures. Maybe this is "holding the two principles of "Eum", the negative aspect rendered in blue, and "Yang", the positive aspect rendered in red, in perfect balance. As the purchase of IBM’s personal computer division shows, China is equally a competitor in areas of advanced technology. Except at the very highest university level, Chinese scientific education has outpaced that of Britain.

In 2008 the next Olympic Games will be held in Beijing. That will be a celebration of the development of China both as an economic power and as a major power in international affairs. There is, inevitably, a long way to go. Deng Xiao Ping’s free-market reforms were initiated only in 1978. The Chinese economy probably still has another 25 years of high growth ahead of it. 2007 China Rising
I recently read an interview with well-known commodities investor Jim Rogers, in The American Way airline magazine. He stated: "China is going to change the world for a long time. The 21st century is the century of China, but most people do not understand the full depth and magnitude of what's happening there."

Rogers pointed out that the 19th century was dominated by the U.K. and the 20th century by America, but China is the next great country of the world. Although he lives in New York City, he says he is considering a move to China so that he can be close to what's happening. He likened it to living in the U.K. or the U.S. just as each of these countries began to rise in political and economic clout.

As I walked around a couple of Chinese cities this past week, I could not help but think of Rogers's comments. In less than ten years, one of the cities I visited, Shenzen, has grown from a population of 800,000 to over 10 million. It is now one of the most important technology-manufacturing hubs in the world. (read more...)

Hotel sector high on investors’ radar screen

“Moving forward, I think we are going to see a consolidation of hotel ownership – from fragmented ownership to chain ownership, and maybe even a hospitality-based real estate investment trust (REIT) like the Starwood REIT in the US. “These consolidated owners will be locals and foreigners from the region who are already chain owners. 17-12-2007: DHL gives Transmile chance to rebuild reputation

Transmile provides express air cargo service to DHL, its single largest customer. It has said that DHL is expected to contribute almost half of its revenue from July 2007 to June 2008. McHugh added Transmile was a component of DHL’s global aviation strategy by operating in multiple sectors in Asia. For instance, it undertook short haul flights, including the Bangkok-Singapore, Singapore-Jakarta and Beijing-Hong Kong routes. (read more...)

The End of Globalization?

A similar sense of doubt has now entered the US presidential campaign -- and it is one that could lead to change of historical proportions. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has distanced herself from the idea of free trade, a philosophy which has shaped America's worldview since the end of World War II. The theory holds that trade between nations automatically increases the wealth of all participants, and that any form of trade is better than no trade at all. Every American president since Harry S. Truman has spent a good deal of his time in office eliminating customs restrictions and barriers to trade.

But candidate Hillary Clinton is now breaking with the legacy of her predecessors, including that of her husband. She no longer believes that trade with other nations is automatically beneficial to her own country. The old theory no longer holds true, she recently told the Financial Times. If she becomes president, she intends to withdraw from the ongoing World Trade talks that began in Doha, Qatar. (read more...)

Singapore is another city that has had phenomenal financial growth. Its good fortune has been attributed to the persistent practice of Feng Shui by Singapore's Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew. Global Milk Inflation

China's demand for milk is soaring by 25 percent a year, and China is now consuming about 30 percent of the world's milk output, much of it from the European Union and mainly from Germany. And as China's 1.3 billion consumers clamber up the food chain, and start eating beef and pork and fast-food hamburgers and chicken nuggets instead of rice, China's ability to feed itself will become more and more constrained as more acres are turned over to livestock. China, with 20 percent of the world's population but only 7 percent of its arable land, has been losing land to factories and houses, airports and roads in the last 20 years of breakneck industrial growth. 20 years Luck Cycle

ZenTrader Note: I am not Feng Shui expert but based on my own research on this 20-Year Luck Cycle, the best & most lucky cycle is the Lower Period Luck 8 and Luck 9 which is counting from yr2004 to yr2023 and yr2024 to yr2043. For Lower Period Luck 8 (2004 to 2023) the best direction is North East (I think refers to China). For Lower Period Luck 9 (2024 to 2043) the best direction is South (Is it Australia?). In Time Cycle Feng Shui, time is divided into 3 periods and 9 Luck Cycles. The three period are known as Upper, Middle and Lower Period and each period governs 3 Luck Cycles. ZenTrader Note: I am not a Feng Shui expert but I think next year 2008 is very important year as Rat is ranked as first animal in Chinese Calender. Maybe it is marking the Emergence of China as the most powerful nation on earth and the end of American Dream which has been financed heavily by Subprime Loan & Personal Credit Card. One side holding the most Capital on earth and the other side holding the most Debt on earth so tell me which side you're going to bet on it? My take is that from 2008 onwards the 60 Year Cycle will be shifting towards China side. I think Warren Buffett has profited from the last 60 Year Cycle from 1948 to 2008 so this time 2008 to 2068 could be another Warren Buffett in the making? Happy reading.
