Why Bond Analyst & Equity Analyst see thing differently?

Overstatement shocks analysts, Thursday May 31, 2007
PETALING JAYA: Most analysts were shocked to find the overstatement of Transmile Group Bhd’s revenue to be over RM300mil for the financial year ended Dec 31, 2006. “I’m speechless. I didn’t expect the figure to be so huge,” said an analyst who covered the stock. He said the overstatement was a serious accounting issue, which would raise doubts among investors. “Confidence in the company may drop as we cannot rely on them for accurate information,” he added. Rating outlook revised from stable to negative, 25 November 2005
The change in outlook is premised on the Company’s weaker balance sheet and debt-servicing ability due to its expansion plan and heightened business risks. Although RAM is cognisant of the tremendous business opportunities offered by the Asia-Pacific routes, it is also noted that competition is stiff. At this point, it is premature to conclude whether Transmile will be able to secure sufficient and sustainable loads for its new aircraft in order to generate returns from its investment. RAM highlights that the MD-11s boast a capacity of 90 tonnes each, i.e. 4.5 times larger than the 20 tonnes of the Company’s intra-regional aircraft. (Source: RAM, Analyst: Wee Yee Tat)
Note: Mr. Wee Yee Tat, Bond Analyst for RAM should deserve a 5 STARS rating for downgrading the rating to negative back in 2005 while most equity analyst upgrading this co to strong buy. What puzzled me is that why bond and equity analyst will see thing differently? I think the key different is that bond analyst is more concerned with actual CASH and whether or not it is created out of air or airplane whereby equity analyst is more concerned with projected profit and RNAV figures. Bond analyst look from the past/historical pattern and predict into future event and equity analyst look into future event to predict the future. See the big picture? Happy reading.
