Stanley Ho's house of cards

Ho, 83, who has three wives and 17 children, is described by his mouthpieces as "a well-respected international entrepreneur."
But there is a dark side to the casino magnate, one which is secretly recorded in Canadian, American, British and Australian intelligence files. (read more...)
In 1999, before Macau was handed over to China, 40 people died in what Portuguese law enforcement authorities called a gang war among Chinese organized crime groups, called triads, over control of some VIP room franchises at the Lisboa. Now, Ho says junket operators are bypassing the Lisboa and its franchises and are bringing some of their best customers to the Sands and Wynn casinos. Referring to his own casinos, Ho told Bloomberg: “Smaller VIP halls, which may not be as competitive as others, are faced with some problems.” Says the Sands’ Adelson of Ho’s complaint: “I find it startling. Apparently he hasn’t got to the point where he realizes there’s competition.” (Source PDF format: Bloomberg.com)
Hotel and gaming mogul chases Bill Gates for 'Richest American' tag

In Forbes Magazine's Billionaires report last September, Adelson was said to be getting richer faster than anyone before him in history. Through his Las Vegas Sands Corp., which operates the Venetian, Adelson was making US$23.6 million a day. Adelson would pass Gates in 2012 at that rate, according to many estimates. (read more...)

Trading Idea - OPCOM

19-09-2006: Opcom to expand into Indonesia
He said: "We are very keen on Indonesia, not just because big players like Maxis (Communication Bhd) and TM (Telekom Malaysia Bhd) are there in a big way but also because of huge demand from local companies for fibre optics.” (read more...)
18 Dec 2006: Ernst & Young entrepreneur of the year Malaysia 2006: Technology Entrepreneur
Operating within the telecommunications space is not easy because competition is ultra tough. One needs an edge to compete. Perhaps Opcom Cables' key advantage is its partnership with leading telecommunications vendor Ericsson — Ericsson Network Technologies owns a 30% stake in Opcom Cables. "... We are fortunate to have Ericsson as a partner so we can tap their know-how and keep our edge in the industry. It has been said that 70% of cross-border joint ventures don't work out but our partnership with Ericsson has been really good right from day one," Mukhriz says. (read more...)

Trading Techniques: Is trading immoral?

Financial trading is immoral." The comment was nearly enough to destroy my enjoyment of the bowl of sang har mee I was eating at Soo Kee Restaurant. But it was also a fair comment and it deserved a considered answer. There were several main threads in his argument.
The first is the idea that financial trading is like gambling and that people get money for doing nothing. It is true that many people do use the market for gambling, but they generally do not last very long. It takes just a few dollars to bet on a horse, but it requires a lot more capital to "bet" on a counter. Source: TheEdgeDaily.Com

Time is the coin of your life
Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you.

Bank Negara Malaysia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) is the Malaysian central bank. Its headquarters is located in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia and was established on 26 January 1959, to issue currency, act as banker and adviser to the Government and influence the country's credit situation.
In 1985, following the "Plaza meeting" of G-5 finance ministers in New York, the dollar fell sharply causing major losses in BNM's dollar reserves. According to Millman (p. 226), the bank responded by starting a program of aggressive speculative trading to make up these losses. Governor Jaffar referred to this strategy as "honest-to-God trading" in a December 1988 speech in New Delhi.
In the late 1980s, Bank Negara under Governor Jaffar Hussein, was a major player in the forex market. Its activities caught the attention of many; initially, Asian markets came to realize the influence Bank Negara had on the direction of forex market. Alan Greenspan acting the Federal Reserve chairman later realized Bank Negara's massive speculation activities and requested the Malaysian central bank to curtail it.
On September 21, 1990, according to Millman (p.228), BNM sold between $500 million - $1 billion worth of pounds in a short period, driving the pound down 4 cents on the dollar. In response, bankers began front running BNM's orders.
In 1992, BNM attempted to defend the value of the British pound against attempts by George Soros and others to devalue the pound sterling. George Soros won and BNM reportedly suffered losses of more than USD $4 billion. [1]
In 1993, BNM lost $2.2 billion in speculative trading, according to Millman (p.229)
In 1994, BNM became technically insolvent and was bailed out by the Malaysian Finance Ministry (Millman, p. 229)
In 1998, BNM pegged 3.80 ringgit to a US dollar after the ringgit substantially depreciated during the Asian financial crisis.
In July 2005, the central bank abandoned fixed exchange rate regime in favor of managed floating exchange rate system an hour after China floated its own currency, resulting in capital flight of more than USD 10 billion. BNM continues to run negative interest rate differential to USD. The ringgit continues to trade within 1% of abandoned fixed rate.

Biotechs surge ahead of stem cell vote
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Stock prices for biotechs involved in stem cell technology continued to surge Monday, after soaring the prior week, after a new source of stem cells was announced, and as the House prepares to vote on whether to loosen federal funding for research involving embryonic stem cells.
The Monday stock activity follows a Sunday report from U.S. researchers that said stem cells nearly as powerful as the ones found in embryos could be extracted from amniotic fluid, according to Reuters. This could alleviate some of the controversy surrounding embryonic stem cells.
The stock price for Stem Cells Inc., (up $0.15 to $3.47, Charts) a biotech that develops medical technology from the use of stem cells extracted from human embryos, jumped 7 percent in Monday morning trading, after soaring more than 25 percent during the week ended Jan. 5. (read more...)

Head and Shoulders Top (Reversal)
A Head and Shoulders reversal pattern forms after an uptrend, and its completion marks a trend reversal. The pattern contains three successive peaks with the middle peak (head) being the highest and the two outside peaks (shoulders) being low and roughly equal.

Technical Note: Both KLCI & CPO Future have technically formed the Left Shoulder and Head but whether or not the Right Shoulder will be formed or will be invalided I think my answer is as good as your own. But once I have the answer - based on chart pattern - you will be informed in this zentrader blog accordingly.
